Worker app
Install the worker app on a phone
Why it's a web app
The Gaffer worker app installs straight from the browser — no App Store, no Play Store, no update waits. The first time you open app.gafferai.uk/worker the phone prompts you to Install or Add to Home Screen. Say yes. After that it launches like any other app.
On iPhone (Safari)
- Open app.gafferai.uk/worker in Safari (not Chrome — Safari is the only iOS browser that can install web apps).
- Tap the Share icon (square with up-arrow) at the bottom.
- Scroll and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add.
You'll get a Gaffer icon on your home screen. Tap it to launch.
On Android (Chrome)
- Open app.gafferai.uk/worker in Chrome.
- You'll see an Install app prompt — tap it.
- If you missed the prompt, tap the ⋮ menu → Install app.
Grant permissions
First launch, the app will ask for three permissions. Say yes to all three — they're required for clocking in.
- Camera — for the face capture on clock-out and CSCS card scan.
- Location (GPS) — to prove you were on site.
- Notifications — so you don't miss forms, RAMS, or messages from the office.
Denied a permission by accident? On iPhone go to Settings → Gaffer. On Android long-press the app icon → App info → Permissions.
Offline behaviour
If the signal drops, the app keeps working. Clock-ins, forms and RAMS signatures queue locally. The yellow sync bar appears at the top — "2 actions queued — will sync when back online". The moment your phone reconnects, everything syncs. You don't need to do anything.
